CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR BOARD DIRECTORS![]() Are you passionate about advancing the medical interpreting profession?
We invite you to present your application to join the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI).
NOMINATIONS DEADLINE: August 31, 2025
We need enthusiastic professionals to volunteer their talents, help lead the NBCMI into the future, and expand certification!
We are accepting Nominations for the following positions:
Qualifications and Commitments:
(for CMI directorship) Demonstrated medical interpreter experience, in-depth knowledge of the industry, preferably in a leadership role or management in a large or recognized organization, language access agency or association. Demonstrated ability to think independently and work collaboratively. Effective communication and presentation skills. Previous experience serving on a Board of Directors, committee(s), or other volunteer service related to the industry is an asset. A minimum commitment of 16 hours per month is required, including a monthly meeting (virtual). Responsibilities:
During the 2-year term, Directors should embrace and be loyal to the NBCMI's mission, vision and purpose of the organization. Demonstrate integrity and high ethical standards. Attend board meetings and other meetings regularly called by the Executive Board or Committee Chair. Must serve at least in one of the committees. Active participation in Board and committee work Work and communicate effectively with other team members Check and respond to important board emails on a daily basis. Volunteer for and willingly accept assignments and complete them on time Stay informed about committee matters, prepare well for meetings and review and comment on minutes and reports. Represent the National Board on Interpreter Conferences and present the process of certification. Participate in marketing efforts for the organization. Abide by the Bylaws of the International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA) and by the Policies and Procedures of the National Board. Be an IMIA member in good standing.
