HOW TO PREPARE FOR CERTIFICATION
The National Board offers CMI candidates two important tools for preparing for the written and oral exams.
They are the CMI Candidate Handbook (www.certifiedmedicalinterpreters.org/candidate_handbook), and the monthly one-hour long webinars, with about 30 minutes dedicated to open Q&A. For information on the webinars, please see the webinar announcements on the home page.
In addition, for the oral exam, there is a Candidate Preparation Document for the Oral Exam that explains the computer based exam functions, please see the attachment below that has the link to this document.
Candidates are encouraged to become familiar with Interpreter Standards of Practice, Codes of Ethics and the CLAS Standards (the appropriate links are available in the CMI Candidate Handbook).
If you are interested in training courses to become a medical interpreter, please see the IMIA's directory at: www.imiaweb.org/education/trainingnotices.asp
